Diving

We have been diving and guiding groups in the pristine waters of Barkley Sound for the past 10 years. On a dive with us you can expect to see wolfeels, octopus, nudibranchs, lingcod, abundant rockfish and invertebrates. We both dive and often one of us will join your group or be a buddy diver if you are one short.

Our dive boat is a custom built 27ft vessel, it has a large open back deck, heated and covered cabin, a head and a very sturdy ladder. We can comfortably accommodate up to 6 divers.

Our dive shed is heated for hanging suits in and also has a fresh water rinse area.

For the best visibility we recommend diving with us between October and June.

We do not supply any gear except weight belts and tanks. Our tanks are aluminum 80’s and we have a few steel 72’s.

If you need to rent gear we suggest you contact Curt Smetcher at Bamfield Dive Shed in Port Alberni (1-877-723-4837) or your local dive shop.

The Bamfield Marine Science Centre offers marine organism identification courses for the general public.

Air fill $10.00 per tank, no charge for a weight belt unless you lose it !!!

Do you give lessons?

No, you must be a certified diver

I have not been diving for many years, should I take a refresher course?

Yes, you will have a much better trip if you do and so will the other divers

Do you supply any mixed gases?

No, compressed air only

Can I spear fish or collect shellfish?

Under no circumstances will we allow any collection except if you are a researcher with a collection permit.

What happens if we book a trip and there is a storm that prevents us from diving?

All of our trips are weather dependent. If we cancel because of weather we will refund your diving charges.

How deep are your average dives?

Most of our dive sites are reefs and the best marine life is between 30 and 65 ft.

Do you have any shipwrecks in Barkley Sound?

Yes, although there are many shipwrecks here most are very old and scattered, but there are two that we dive frequently. Our most-asked-for sites are reefs teaming with life.

What if I have no dive buddy?

No problem! We love to dive and will be happy to act as a dive buddy.
